  • Antique Shops: Downtown Wilmington has nearly 20 antique shops with specialties from jewelry to military.
  • Chandler’s Wharf: A variety of shops on the riverfront clustered together along a cobble stone road. Shops include gourmet foods and wines, ladies apparel, home accents, linens and home furnishings.
  • The Cotton Exchange: A collection of galleries, boutiques, gift shops, jewelry and other unusual shops and restaurants.
  • Independence Mall: Today’s modern shopping for the whole family.

Just for Fun

  • Carolina Beach Boardwalk: The most recent revitalization project for Carolina Beaches waterfront. Several blocks of restaurants, shops and games, and a boardwalk with a 40s/50s feel. (Open only during the summer.)
  • Carolina Beach State Park: The park has miles of market trails. Walking the maritime forest covered paths along the wetlands and Savannah areas is enjoyable.
  • Jubilee Amusement Park: A place to take kids for family entertainment. Go-Cart tracks, water slides, arcade, and over 20 rides.
  • Airlie Gardens: Designed in the 1900’s Airlie Gardens encompasses 67 acres of post-Victorian European style gardens with 12 acres of freshwater lakes. Walking tour features include azaleas, camellias, statuary and historic Airlie Oaks. Admission Adults $8; Senior $7; Children $2.

History

  • USS North Carolina Battleship: Memorial to the 10,000 North Carolinians who lost their lives in WWII. After 50 years it is still one of the most powerful warships ever built. Admission $8 adults; $7 Seniors and military, $4 Children.
  • History Museum: Museum of the island’s history and heritage preserved in one of its oldest houses.
  • North Carolina State Aquarium: Shark tanks, trails through the marsh, and a popular touch-tank, Fish feeding daily. Admission: Adults are $3 & Children over 6 are $1.
  • St. John’s Museum of Art: Large collection of Mary Cassatt’s color prints and usually host touring exhibitions. The museum is also active force for art education and support in the coastal area. The museum of Art is the leading art museum in the area.
